Peak body the Federation of Scientific And Technological Societies (FASTS) has changed its name after 26 years.
The newly named Science and Technology Australia (STA) which represents 68,000 scientists and technologists launched its new name last week saying the name was chosen following feedback from scientists and stakeholders.
The organisation was formed in 1985 with members including scientific bodies such as the Australian Neuroscience Society, the Australian Society for Biophysics, the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, the Australian Deans of Science and the Women in Science Enquiry Network among others.

Shortly after launching their name they launched the STA Respect the Science Campaign, which calls on all Australians to take time to understand how scientific evidence is generated so they can place the appropriate weight on the information they receive and use it to inform the decisions they make.
The Respect the Science campaign received much attention in the media and has been commended by the Prime Minister, Chief Scientists across Australia, scientists across a range of disciplines, parliamentarians across political parties and the general public.
