While there have been recent cuts to science funding across the board in Australia, the Australian Synchrotron has not been immediately affected as it is currently in the middle of its 4 year fixed funding package. However it could be argued that the facility had already suffered through funding cuts 2 years ago, as the current funding package was very much an emergence rescue package which resulted in staff losses and reorganisation.
The current Enterprise agreement comes to an end in December this year and preliminary negotiations have begun and are expected to ramp up in August. The main activity right now is concentrated on implementing a banding structure and job classification system. This was an agreement out of the last enterprise agreement and has required a great deal of effort and negotiation to ensure it is fair, consistent and meets the needs of both employees and employers.
