COMING SOON: 2018 Professional Scientists Employment and Remuneration Report
Preliminary findings from the upcoming Scientists’ Employment and Remuneration Survey suggest that scientists are looking for a pay rise and better professional development opportunities. 15 per cent had changed jobs in the previous 12 months and 37 per cent had moved for a pay increase. 35.5 per cent of respondents said they were dissatisfied with their current level of remuneration and 39.8 per cent said they were considering leaving their current employer. The survey showed that over the past year, remuneration for scientists has increased by a modest 2.1 per cent, an increase only matching that of the annual cost of living increase and general wages growth across Australian workplaces. The slowing growth in scientists’ salaries across the Australian economy brings with it possible risks around the attraction and retention of science talent at a time when a diverse and sustainable science and technology workforce is most vital to Australia’s future. The report is due out at the end of November and all members will receive a free copy.
