Professionals Australia congratulates the Hon Karen Andrews MP on her reappointment as Minister for Industry, Science and Technology. Minister Andrews is a former mechanical engineer who brings her STEM experience to these critical portfolio areas and understands the crucial role that science, technology, engineering and maths play in building a strong workforce capable of meeting future challenges and underpinning economic growth. She is committed to ensuring the National Science and Technology Council and Innovation Science Australia provide informed advice on Government science policy and priorities.
We also congratulate the Hon Dan Tehan MP; the Hon Greg Hunt MP and Senator the Hon Michaela Cash on their reappointment as Ministers for Education, Health and Skills and Vocational Education respectively.
On the Ministerial announcements, Professional Scientists Australia President Robyn Porter said: “We are keen to reaffirm our commitment to working productively with the Morrison Government to ensure members’ voices are heard in current areas of debate. These include recognition of the massive contribution scientists make in both the public and private sectors, the need to properly fund research infrastructure, the need to ensure diversity in the science workforce, the need to ensure upskilling and lifelong learning for scientists throughout their careers and ensure proper consideration of issues around artificial intelligence and automation. Professional Scientists Australia is part of an active alliance of lobby groups in Canberra and we will continue our work in trying to improve the operating environment for our scientist members – which is, of course, our core purpose.”
