Following the release of the Australian Government Public Sector Workplace Bargaining Policy, Professional Australia members at ARPANSA are in the process of finalising their log of claims.
Management tabled its agenda at the first bargaining meeting of the Agreement Making Committee (AMC) on 19 June.
One of the major concerns is with the new work level standards including the fact that ‘professional’ work (i.e. science) is now defined down to the APS3 level (traditionally, professional scientists started at APS5) and that the ‘Characteristics’ of the job (Leadership, Job Context, Decision-making, Stakeholder Engagement, Management) could trump professional expertise in defining the work level with potential implications for deprofessionalisation and deskilling of the public sector science workforce including ARPANSA. It is hoped that it may be possible to have existing work level standards read in conjunction with the new standards.
The last meeting took place on 10 July with discussions about the bargaining framework and work level standards continuing.
