The Victorian Government has announced that provision for family violence leave will be included in enterprise agreements being rolled out from September 2015 in the Victorian public sector. Professionals Australia CEO Chris Walton welcomed the announcement saying the provisions recognised that continuity of employment alongside the flexibility to, for example, attend court hearings was critical as domestic violence survivors worked their way through the system. “Victims need support and financial independence in what are difficult and stressful times,” he said. “This is an important step in influencing community attitudes.” The ACTU is in the process of seeking domestic violence provisions in Federal Awards.
