LGEA has been your voice for years. Changes to the industry means that now, more than ever before, membership is critical. The LGEA is committed to promoting greater recognition of engineers as we move through the reform process.
2. Campaigning for conditions
LGEA fights for your rights, conditions and your rate of pay. This includes protecting and enhancing terms and conditions in the Local Government Award, especially those that affect engineers more significantly, such as the Civil Liability Allowance and vehicle leaseback arrangements.
3. Maximise your pay
The LGEA conducts a Local Government Specific salary survey every 2 years and provides the most detailed analysis of technical professionals’ rates of pay. This is free for all members. This industry information is ideal to assist you to negotiate pay rises with the assistance and guidance from one of our staff.
4. Personal advice and assistance
If there’s a problem at work, LGEA is there. Members rely on us for support, advice and representation whenever job security or conditions are threatened by restructuring, redundancy, evaluation or performance allegations.
5. Your industry voice
LGEA is your voice in negotiations with government and industry bodies. Regular meetings with the Minister for Local Government are held to discuss concerns and recommendations raised by members across the LGEA.
6. Journey insurance and mortality benefits
In 2012, the NSW government made changes to the Workers Compensation legislation which removed coverage for injuries incurred by employees on their trips to and from work. The LGEA’s Journey Insurance for members provides extensive benefits should you be unfortunate enough to be injured on the way to or from work.
Our journey cover has two tiers:
- Tier 1 for members paying our highest membership fee; and
- Tier 2 for members paying less than the highest membership fee.
Both our Tier 1 and Tier 2 benefits are the best in the industry.
LGEA now provides a mortality benefit of $3,000 to the immediate next-of-kin of a deceased member. This benefit is to assist the members next of kin meet funeral expenses. These expenses are often unexpected and unplanned, and are designed to assist the member’s family at this difficult time.
7. Legal Defence Fund
Professional engineers face an increasing risk of legal action. In response, LGEA has established a Legal Defence Fund for members facing criminal prosecution under environmental and OHS laws.
8. Have your say
Through our extensive network of trained LGEA workplace delegates and qualified LGEA staff, as a member you will have a voice on the consultative committee at your Council. This gives you the opportunity to influence the decisions that will affect you at work.
9. Staying in touch
Engineering staff rely on LGEA to stay in touch with industry news and events. We provide workplace meetings, member publications, and networking seminars.
