Your union pursues long service leave for ex Blakefield South members
Hearing 3 and 4 December 2018
When Staff and Deputies were terminated from Blakefield South, Glencore did not pay them their full long service leave entitlements. We believe that members were short changed by approximately 10%.
We took Glencore to Fair Work but after attempts to sort this out failed at the conciliation stage Glencore refused to allow Fair Work to arbitrate. And Fair Work doesn’t have the power to arbitrate unless both parties agree. So Glencore effectively vetoed a resolution of the matter.
Your union didn’t let Glencore’s tactics deter us – we have taken the issue to the Federal Court.
We have lodged our submissions, and four members who were Deputies have assisted and agreed to be Witnesses in the case. This is really important because Glencore is arguing that even if we were to win the case, Glencore will not apply the results of the case to all of the affected members who were short changed on long service leave .
Hearing dates have now been set for 3 and 4 December in Sydney. All affected members are encouraged to attend if you can, and email email@example.com and we will advise of the location and time etc.
