The SA Budget has foreshadowed significant cuts to health and raises concerns for medical scientists in SA.
While the precise impact of Budget cuts on medical science remains to be seen, any cuts to health will heighten uncertainty in the profession.
Our challenges in building career paths and maintaining expertise and capability will be compounded by cuts to health funding in the State and Federal budgets. Additionally, we face the ongoing challenge of being heard over the other professions in health who already have a strong, collective voice.
It is only by coming together as a profession that medical scientists will be able to achieve positive change in the current environment. Our campaign continues to grow, as more Medical Scientists realize that the issues are too grave to be ignored. There is also now a slight mood in the community and media in support of science. We must continue to grow our professional voice to continue this movement.
The choice for Medical Scientists is clear, we can remain in the background and hope for the best, or join together through the Medical Science Matters campaign to create a strong professional voice, and achieve the recognition and respect we deserve.
Now is the time to join Professional Scientists Australia if you are not yet a member.
A Win on Job Security
Earlier this week the Minister for the Public Sector, The Hon Susan Close, announced the extension of the Governments Job Security Policy, while the negotiations for a new Enterprise Agreement are occurring.
The policy was due to expire on the 30th June of this year, and this announcement provides members with certainty around Job Security into the immediate future.
Professional Scientists Australia members have raised job security as a key issue during the current Enterprise Bargaining negotiations, and with discussions with LHN’s and Health.
Members will continue to campaign to make job security a key component in the next Enterprise Agreement.
Enterprise Bargaining – negotiating your employment conditions
