What does your salary say about you?
Professionals Australia were recently asked by members, “What should I be getting paid?” and “How do I get more money for my job?”
Being a member of Professionals Australia provides you with the resources to get the answers and what you can do to get more. Here’s 5 ways that you can understand what you are worth and to get more in 2020.
What skills does your industry value?
Basing your wages on your work colleagues is not a good indicator of your actual worth. Many employers have a different value for the same skill-set and comparing yourself to employees in the same organisation just gives you a bias result. Comparing yourself to others in your industry lets you have an accurate picture of what value other employers pay for your skills.
You can’t know every employee from every organisation in your industry but you don’t have to. Each year Professionals Australia release an Employment and Remuneration Report to give you a detailed overview of your industry. The remuneration report is free to PA members.
What are you getting paid compared to others?
If you knew every salary and averaged it out would you deserve a raise or would you be earning in the top percentile? We have the detailed information about salary rates and have an easy to use salary calculator that compares your experience and skills to give you an accurate indication on how much you should be getting paid.
Is your contract worth your employment?
Your worth isn’t just how much you take home at the end of the working week, it’s a collection of your wage and benefits that your employer is offering you. More money doesn’t mean that you are better off if other factors increase the difficulty of your work. By going through your contract and outlining the pros and cons can give you a better understanding the worth of your contract. Professionals Australia conduct contract reviews to compare your individual contract to industry averages so you know exactly how good your contract is.
Are your negotiation skills up to scratch?
Negotiating your wage is an intimidating process, but with some simple tricks you can turn this process into a great way to be recognised by your employer and leverage your position for a positive outcome. Our professionals offer advice to best prepare you for a conversation around your employment and prepare you to ask for a raise.
Are you covered in your workplace?
What would happen if your employer asked you to work unpaid overtime? It’s hard to say no without feeling that you’ve just put your job at risk. Many employees find themselves in situations where their employer asks them for more than what is in their contract. With Professionals Australia you can get quick advice from experts on the legal ramifications if you were to refuse. We can even offer you legal representation to make sure that you are getting a fair and just outcome.
