Professionals Australia today called on the Government to rule out pathology job cuts at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Sarah Andrews, SA director of Professionals Australia said she has huge concerns with the colocation of Clinpath at the hospital, alongside SA Pathology.
“We fought off the privatisation of outpatients medical imaging a couple of months ago and here we are again faced with a private pathology service in the same building as SA Pathology,” Ms Andrews said.
“Taxpayers have invested over $2 billion in this public hospital and this must not end up being just another sneaky, back door way to privatisation.”
Ms Andrews said she feared Clinpath’s presence could result in public service job cuts.
“Clinpath have got a shop front which will see most of the foot traffic. If you crowd out the public service, that could be used as an excuse for job cuts.
Ms Andrews said she also wanted to see both the Opposition and Nick Xenophon take a clear position on health privatisation.
“We want to see all political parties rule out privatizing our public health services – South Australians have made it abundantly clear what they think of privatisation.
“Privatisation ruined our electricity sector leading to massive price increases. We need to learn that lesson and not make the same mistake in health.”
