The ACTU is seeking to vary all modern awards to provide employees with an entitlement to temporary reduced hours to accommodate their parenting and/or caring responsibilities. Underlying the application is the need – widely acknowledged by employees, employers, and governments – to assist employees to reconcile work and family responsibilities while maintaining strong connections to the workforce.
The ACTU is preparing its case for family-friendly work arrangements and are looking for individuals prepared to make witness statements in support of the case for family-friendly work arrangements. In particular, they are looking for carers of elders and people with disability/long-term illness, and people in male-dominated industries (both men and women) who have a reduced hours arrangement or want one. They are also looking for individuals who work in small business, casuals or low-paid workers who want changed hours but don’t bother asking because of the workplace culture/fear of reprisals. The ACTU can keep people’s identity confidential if needed.
