Organisations are social systems – that is, they are made up of people. Accordingly, most major changes to organisations have implications for the people who work in them. Moreover, the success or failure of managerial attempts to introduce change will depend largely on whether employees in an organisation are willing to co-operate in the process of change.
Thus, change management is fundamentally about managing people (Burnes, 1996: 179). This is the primary focus of this Guide and underpins each of the topic areas covered.
