The Professional Scientist Salary Calculator is based on the data collected in the annual Professional Scientist Remuneration Survey Report (published by Australian Government in conjunction with Science & Technology Australia), making it the most up to date resource for calculating your true market value.
To establish a query:
- Select a combination of parameters from the list below.
- Hold down the ‘Ctrl’ key to make multiple selections.
- Try to keep the number of parameters chosen to a minimum as the inclusion of each additional parameter will reduce the sample size.
The analysis is based on the results of the 2013 Professional Scientist Remuneration Survey.
How to use
How to use the Australian Government salary calculatorsThe Australian Government salary calculators display data as received by the survey respondents. Therefore, the number of responses will be determined by the number of records in the database which match precisely the criteria used for analysis.
1. If there are insufficient or no records matching the search criteria The salary calculators will only display results if the sample size is 5 or more, so when there are no or too few exact matches to the criteria used, little or no responses will be returned. This most often occurs when a large number of variables are used at once (e.g. if you make a selection from all available drop-down boxes). Alternatively, some of the search criteria are by nature small in number (e.g. smaller disciplines or a state small in population). There are a large number of combinations that can be used, but using more than two or three variables at a time makes the task virtually impossible, as it would require a huge database of records, at least in the tens of thousands, which, of course, is beyond the scope of any survey of this kind in Australia. 2. Making your choice from the lists To ensure valid results, try to keep the number of parameters chosen to a minimum as the inclusion of each additional choice will reduce the sample size. Decide your most important parameter (usually responsibility level or years of experience), and commence with only one or two variables at a time to generate results. As you introduce an additional variable you will see its impact as the sample size reduces. Introduce additional variables until you are satisfied with the results. In this way, you will maximise the sample size and make the results more statistically reliable. When using the variables years of experience or responsibility level, choose one or the other, as the bands of years of experience are quite narrow and tend to filter significantly. Responsibility level is more reliable in any event as it is related to the position under evaluation, rather than the incumbent. |
