  • IT Professionals Calculator

The IT Professional Salary Calculator is based on the data collected in the Australian Computer Society Remuneration Survey Report (published in conjunction with the ACS), making it the most up to date resource for calculating your true market value.

To establish a query:

  • Select a combination of parameters from the list below.
  • Hold down the ‘Ctrl’ key to make multiple selections.
  • Try to keep the number of parameters chosen to a minimum as the inclusion of each additional parameter will reduce the sample size.

The analysis is based on the results of the 2013 Australian Computer Society Remuneration Survey.

How to use

How to use the Australian Government salary calculators

The Australian Government salary calculators display data as received by the survey respondents. Therefore, the number of responses will be determined by the number of records in the database which match precisely the criteria used for analysis.

1. If there are insufficient or no records matching the search criteria

The salary calculators will only display results if the sample size is 5 or more, so when there are no or too few exact matches to the criteria used, little or no responses will be returned. This most often occurs when a large number of variables are used at once (e.g. if you make a selection from all available drop-down boxes). Alternatively, some of the search criteria are by nature small in number (e.g. smaller disciplines or a state small in population).

There are a large number of combinations that can be used, but using more than two or three variables at a time makes the task virtually impossible, as it would require a huge database of records, at least in the tens of thousands, which, of course, is beyond the scope of any survey of this kind in Australia.

2. Making your choice from the lists

To ensure valid results, try to keep the number of parameters chosen to a minimum as the inclusion of each additional choice will reduce the sample size.

Decide your most important parameter (usually responsibility level or years of experience), and commence with only one or two variables at a time to generate results. As you introduce an additional variable you will see its impact as the sample size reduces. Introduce additional variables until you are satisfied with the results. In this way, you will maximise the sample size and make the results more statistically reliable.

When using the variables years of experience or responsibility level, choose one or the other, as the bands of years of experience are quite narrow and tend to filter significantly. Responsibility level is more reliable in any event as it is related to the position under evaluation, rather than the incumbent.

Purchase of the survey report

The Australian Computer Society Remuneration Survey Report (“Report”) is published by the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers, Australia (“Australian Government” – formerly ‘APESMA’), and is available for purchase by both Australian Government and/or Australian Computer Society (“ACS”) members and the general public (non-members). As a benefit of their Australian Government and/or ACS membership, members are entitled to a discount, but only under the terms and conditions detailed below.

Organisations who wish to utilise the information contained within the Report or online to review employee salaries must purchase the Report at the normal corporate price. Australian Government reserves the right to reject any corporate order placed using a member’s ID to obtain a discount, if deemed to be in breach of these terms and conditions of purchase.

The information contained within the Report is intended only for disclosure to and use by the person and/or organisation* whose name and address has been recorded by Australian Government as the purchaser of the Report (“the Purchaser”). (* only for those orders placed at the standard corporate price).

Members’ only / Participants’ price

Those persons who purchase a copy of the Report using a valid Australian Government or ACS membership ID to receive the members’ only discount price (“the discount price”) must not distribute the information contained in the Report, nor the username and password assigned for online access, to their employer, colleagues, employees or any other person(s), without consent from Australian Government.

The purchase of the Report by either members or participants at the discount price allows use of the printed report and the username/password for online access by the Purchaser only. Purchasers cannot buy the Report at the discount price on behalf of their employer or any other organisation. Members may only purchase one (1) copy per edition of the Survey Report at the discount price – any subsequent purchases will be charged at the normal corporate rate.

Survey participants

Participants are members of the ACS and/or Australian Government who are invited to complete the survey, and are offered the discount price if they participate in the survey. The discount price is only offered to participants at the time of completing the survey. Orders will only be accepted on the participant’s special order form distributed with the survey questionnaire, if returned with a completed questionnaire, or by the participants’ e-commerce order form for those participants who complete the survey online via the Australian Government website.

Use of the salary calculator

Members >> Am I a member or a non-member/subscriber?

As a benefit of their Australian Government membership, Australian Government members may access the IT Professionals Salary Calculator (“salary calculator”) free of charge by logging in using their membership details. However, the online salary calculator contains information that is proprietary and valuable to Australian Government, so accordingly the information is intended only for disclosure to and use by fee-paying, financial Australian Government members. ACS members cannot login free of charge – to gain access, you will need to purchase the full report.

Australian Government members may only utilise the data contained online for their own personal use (i.e. in determining details for their own salary).

Australian Government members must not:

  • distribute the information contained in the online survey to their employer, colleagues, employees or any other person(s) (“others”) without consent from Australian Government
  • login to the online survey to source salary details on behalf of others
  • share their Australian Government membership login details with others

Non-members/subscribers

Non-members can access the online data by purchasing the Report, and logging in using the details supplied by Australian Government.

The information accessible via the salary calculator contains information that is proprietary and valuable to Australian Government, and is intended only for disclosure to and use by the person and/or organisation* whose name and address has been recorded by Australian Government as the purchaser of the Report. (* only for those orders placed at the standard corporate price).

The Username and Password details provided for access to the online salary calculator are confidential. They are to be used only by the Purchaser and it is a breach of the conditions of sale to distribute these details to any third party without the consent of Australian Government.
